Laval is the prefecture of our area « La Mayenne ». “La Mayenne” is also the name of the river which flows across the area and splits Laval into two parts. Our school is situated on the right bank of the river.
We welcome pupils who come from many different social classes : farmers’, workers’ , executive and professional people’s children. Sainte Thérèse is a private catholic school which is under the control of the State. It aims at welcoming everybody no matter what its nationality is or whatever class people come from.
This school has set up specific projects to welcome pupils who have special needs (83 pupils). For example we adapt our teaching methods and give lessons to people who suffer with dyslexia. We also teach the visually impaired and children who have hearing disorders. They are in class with pupils who have no particular problems and we get help from specialized units like SSEFIS or SERDAA. Finally, we also welcome pupils who suffer from cystic fibrosis in order to enable them to have traditional schooling. They have people who are there to help them in their everyday life : assistants and paramedics.
We also teach other sorts of classes : some of them take singing lessons (the pupils both sing at school and at the conservatoire), and some others who have extra physical education hours ( we have a local handball team which has very good results for example).
This diversity of activities and specificities is offered to our pupils in order to combine schooling and self-fulfillment.
